Sno-Drift Rally
January 25-26 , 2008
Sno-Drift was a weekend of firsts for the shadowrally team. After significant work in preparation for the 2008 season the team headed to Atlanta michigan to secure first place G5 finishes in both the Sno and Drift regional rallies. This was the first rally for Torie (Greg's wife). It was also the first time that the team had a split navigator, Torie navigated the Shadow to victory on Friday and Tom did the same on Saturday to secure a win-win weekend for the team. This was the first time that Jon and Shar Wickens joined the team to volunteer as service crew. Jon and Tom rallied together in the early 1980's, check out some of their history here. I have to mention that this was also the first time the team competed with no competition in Group 5. The team ran a consistent and brisk pace to ensure a finish knowing that a finish would mean a Group 5 win and valuable points toward the regional championship.
The weekend was Tories first performance rally. We were all excited and nervous at the start of the Sno performance rally on Friday. Unfortunately those nerves followed over into the stages and we experienced a "moment" on stage 2. See the dramatic video link below provided by
Mary and Jerry Shiloff who were marshals at this "corner"
.

Due to the off road adventure on Stage 2 the team had to work to repair some broken driving lights at service. The snow bank did no noticeable damage other than the driving lights.

Next were the night stages where the team settled into a groove and Greg began to get back into the high speed rhythm of driving that makes rally so much fun.

Saturday morning is was Tom's turn to slide into the navigators seat for the first time in over a year. The team picked up where they left off the night before and set solid stage times throughout the day.

We did have one exciting "off" at a spectator point where all of our friends and family were watching. Of course you always screw up the corner where you family is with a video camera!

It was a great winning weekend for team shadowrally and we ended up taking the full 100 points towards the G5 region rally championship. We celebrated at the awards ceremony and Torie even signed some autographs!

As always we would like to thank all the people that help support the shadowrally team. Racing is a sport that requires the help and coordination of many people that volunteer their time and skill to win races, and for that we say THANK YOU!
